As we are about to begin student registrations for our 2025 season this April, the Lehigh Valley Lightning Teams have made it a priority to stay engaged with our local trail crews and land managers this year. Valley Mountain Bikers became one of our two title sponsors in 2024 and we proudly continue our work and partnership with the organization in 2025.

To kick things off strong, several of our dedicated students and coaches got an early start this past Sunday, helping the Trex Trail crew raking the trails around Brian’s Return. Together they completed an initial combined 16 hours of trail work; a nice start to this year’s commitment to increase our overall team hours on trail stewardship from last year’s 135 and the previous year’s 225 hours total.

Keep an eye out for our students as they will assist with trail maintenance on our local trails at Jordan Creek Parkway, Trex, Jacobsburg, Walking Purchase Park (Sals) and South Mountain in the coming months.

To help reach this goal, coach Jim Clark will jump into the role of TTC Coach and work with the kids on staying on track to making this our most impactful year yet!

In related news, we were thrilled to discover this article on Singletracks, featuring some of the hard trail work hours our students also contributed towards through general maintenance, cleanup, new trail building and trail marker/ signage projects of recent years.

Pennsylvania youth MTB league has spent over 40,000 hours working on trails

“While the kids racing bikes is awesome, it’s the clear development of the whole person through stewardship and service, through fitness and fun, and through immersion in nature in ways that can lead to lifelong love of the great […] We’re a lot more than just a youth sport.”
